Great Room

The great room will be the main space, and the “room” itself is a little misleading since there will be an open concept in the Main Level. There will be seating for 10 people, and there will be a TV wall for the 85″ Television. This wall will host the following:

  1. Apple TV Box
  2. Media Center PC
  3. Microsoft Xbox
  4. Sony Playstation
  5. Open

The Apple TV will provide smarts for the television. The reason for this is the choice for basic TVs only. Because of this, I can replace the smart TV device if I need a different system or when the adapter becomes too old although the TV is still running good. The 85″ TV will plug directly into the coaxial jack for television capabilities which will be the same throughout the building. The good thing will be no cable box which will only interfere as I would have to select a HDMI port for the box which I will not wish to do.

The Media Center PC will be ideal for when you wish to view media from the media server, or if you need help in getting work done (assuming no one is using the TV). There will be a remote for the TV, and PC. There will also be a bluetooth keyboard with an integrated touch pad. The media Center PC will also play PC only games which will be the main reason for its connection. The system will have 64GB of memory, 256GB primary NVME?, and an 8TB secondary NVME for the games. The PC will plug directly into the network which will provide for less latency, and better responsiveness. While I would love to have an internal Blu-Ray writer, I don’t see this happening.

And I will have the 2 most popular game systems. When I buy, it will have the maximum storage possible, and if possible, and the option is there – I will upgrade it even further. When dealing with games, you can never have too much storage space. The remote controllers will sit on the end tables, and plugged in when not in use. One would not want their controller to run out of battery in the middle of a gaming battle. With that said, those that won’t plug in the controller will not be allowed to use the system. This is to not be cruel, but teach how to treat others the way you would want to be treated. Just like cleaning out the lint trap when finished with the dryer. You would want a clean lint trap at the beginning, so it is the right thing to do.

The fireplace will be electric, and while not a real fire, I am hoping for a realist facsimile. Since this is all electric, there is no need for a chimney, or gas flume. The fireplace will not be necessary since the underfloor radiant heating will be available, and turn on automatically when the temperature drops below a temperature. To help promote the use of the metric system, I will use Celsius for temperature control. This will be a little getting used to, but I will provide a means of identifying the Fahrenheit as well. However, the goal will be to introduce those living with me to actually recognize and understand both metrics.

Between the seating area and TV, there will be a coffee table. This will allow you to set your drinks down, and other things like snack bowls. Obviously, when done using it, you should clean up after yourself. As with the rest of the building, the great room’s flooring will be bamboo planks, but an interesting aspect is the great room walls will be black. This will provide a unique difference, and will radiate light less which is good for watching a movie at night. The great room will have a 7.1 surround system, and the speakers will be built into the ceiling along with the wifi? access points.
